What is better than professional development workshops?  Onsite coaching!  

DSD Professional Development customizes every coaching session to meet the needs of the teachers as they learn how to implement blended learning into the classrooms.  Our plan starts out by getting to know the teachers. 

Getting to Know the Teachers

As part of our coaching deployment process, the DSD Professional Development team, first meets with the teachers during their planning time to develop a game plan for how to roll out Phase 1, Phase 2, or Phase 3 in the classroom.   The goal setting is just between the coach and the teacher.  This way the teacher starts to feel more comfortable with sharing ideas, thoughts, and concerns with the coach.  

Co-Teach with the Teachers

The next step is actually go into the classroom and participate in the lesson with the teacher.  While the DSD Professional Development Coach is in the classroom, she might be working with a small group of students, helping out with the technology station, and or helping with the independent practice station while the teacher is teaching a mini lesson.  By participating in the classroom, the teacher starts to understand the teaching style, classroom management, and the student interest.

Planning with the teachers

Together with the teachers, the DSD Professional Development team, will sit down an plan out a blended learning lesson for either Phase 1, Phase 2, or Phase 3.  The teacher and the coach will talk about the classroom environment, what went well during the previous lesson, and the adjustments that can be made to enhance the learning environment for the students.  

Deploy the Lesson

The DSD Professional Development coach and the teacher will now deploy the blended learning lesson together to the class.  The coach will watch to see how

• the rotations are working 
• student engagement 
• technology application
• teacher engagement
• the ability for students to move at their own pace, place, and path
• the use of data in the Phase 1, Phase 2, or Phase 3 blended learning environment 

Repeat the Process

The teacher and the DSD Professional Development Coach, will start to plan the next lesson after reviewing what worked, what didn't work, and how they can continue to develop the blended learning lesson to meet the needs of the next Phase.
